Materials & cleaning

What our toys are made from, why body-safe silicone matters, how to clean and store your vibrator, and which lubes are compatible.

Beautiful things deserve a little care. Every vibrator.toys product is made from body-safe materials, and looking after it takes about a minute. Here is everything you need to know.

What our toys are made from

  • Platinum-cure silicone. The soft outer layer on our toys. It is smooth, non-porous, phthalate-free and stable, so it can be cleaned thoroughly and will not break down over time. It feels silky and warms to your touch.
  • ABS. A hard, smooth, non-porous plastic used for buttons, handles and charging bases.
  • Never porous materials. We do not sell jelly rubber, PVC or other porous materials, which can trap moisture and bacteria even after washing.

How to clean your vibrator

Clean your toy before you use it for the first time, and after every use.

  1. Check the water rating. Fully waterproof toys (IPX7 or IPX8, such as Lune Rechargeable Mini Bullet) can be rinsed and washed under the tap. Splash-proof toys (IPX4 to IPX6, such as Rouge Lipstick Bullet) can be rinsed but not submerged. Keep charging ports dry.
  2. Wash gently. Use warm water with a mild, unscented soap or a dedicated toy cleaner. Work into any seams or buttons with your fingertips.
  3. Rinse well to remove all soap.
  4. Pat dry with a clean, lint-free cloth, then let it air-dry fully before storing.

Avoid boiling, dishwashers, bleach, alcohol wipes and harsh or scented soaps, which can damage silicone and the electronics inside. Our step-by-step guide to cleaning your vibrator goes into more detail.

Lube compatibility

A little lube can make everything feel more comfortable.

Lube typeWith our silicone toys
Water-basedAlways compatible. Our first recommendation.
Silicone-basedCan damage the surface of some silicone toys. Patch-test on a hidden spot first, or avoid.
Oil-basedBest avoided with toys; it can degrade some materials and is harder to clean off.

If in doubt, choose water-based. See lube and compatibility.

Storage

Store your toy clean and completely dry, away from direct sunlight and heat, ideally in its pouch or box. Keep silicone toys from pressing against other silicone toys for long periods, as some finishes can react. If your toy has a travel lock, switch it on; if not, a firm pouch or case stops the button being pressed by accident.

Charging and batteries

Use the cable supplied, plugged into a standard USB port or plug. Never charge a toy while it is wet, and keep it away from heat while charging. If a battery-powered toy will be stored for a while, remove the battery. See charging and battery safety.
