How to choose a vibrator

Size and shape: finding the right fit

How length, width, weight and tip shape change the way a vibrator feels, with real measurements from our collection to compare.

Size and shape are easy to overlook, yet they make a real difference to how a toy feels in your hand and how comfortable it is to use. A few millimetres here and there can change whether a toy feels delicate and precise or substantial and reassuring. This guide explains what to look for, with real measurements from our collection.

Why does size matter more than you might think?

A vibrator's size affects three things: how easy it is to hold and control, how the sensation spreads, and how easy it is to store or travel with. Smaller toys feel more precise and are easier to tuck away. Larger toys usually hold bigger motors and batteries, which can mean deeper sensation and longer sessions.

There is no ideal size. It depends on what you enjoy, how you like to hold things and where you plan to keep it.

How long and wide are bullet vibrators?

Our bullets run from about 76 mm to 97 mm long, and the slim ones measure 17 mm to 18 mm across. To give a sense of scale:

Rouge Lipstick Bullet89 mm18 mmnot yet confirmed
Bijou Classic BulletTo be confirmed18 mmTo be confirmed
Lune Rechargeable Mini Bullet76 mmTo be confirmed45 g
Argent Rechargeable Bullet97 mm17 mmabout 55 g

The Rouge is shaped just like a lipstick. The Argent is a touch longer and noticeably weightier in the hand, thanks to its polished finish. The Bijou is featherlight, and the Lune is a compact 76 mm capsule at 45 g.

If you have smaller hands, or simply prefer something light and nimble, a compact design is easy to manoeuvre. If you like something with a bit of presence, a longer, slightly wider toy gives you more to hold.

Does weight make a difference?

Weight is an underrated detail. A very light toy, around 20 g to 35 g, is easy to hold for a long time and practically disappears into a bag. A heavier toy, around 50 g to 60 g, feels more substantial and often carries a larger motor, which tends to create deeper, more resonant vibration.

Neither is better. Some people love the featherlight feel of a mini; others find a little weight reassuring.

Which tip shape suits you?

The tip is where most of the sensation is felt, so its shape matters.

Rounded tips spread vibration gently over a slightly wider area. They feel soft and enveloping, and are a lovely choice for beginners.

Tapered tips narrow to a gentle point for more focused sensation. The Bijou Classic Bullet has a gently tapered tip that many people find pleasantly precise.

Angled tips sit at a slight angle to the body, which can make it easier to find just the right spot without awkward wrist positions. The Rouge Lipstick Bullet has an angled tip, just like a real lipstick.

Straight or curved: which is more comfortable?

Most bullets are straight, which keeps them simple and compact. A gentle curve, like the one on the tail of a dual-ended massage wand, follows the natural way you hold a toy, so your wrist stays relaxed. If comfort during longer sessions matters to you, a curved design is worth considering.

Surface and finish

The finish affects how a toy feels to the touch. Satin and soft-touch silicone feel velvety rather than slippery, while smooth gloss finishes glide easily. A few designs add gentle texture, such as ridges, for extra sensation. All are equally easy to clean when they are made from body-safe silicone.

Size and practicality

Think about where your toy will live. A compact bullet fits neatly in a bedside drawer, a wash bag or a make-up pouch. If you travel often, a smaller toy with a travel lock is especially handy. Our travel and airport guide has more tips, and our guide to storage covers keeping toys clean and safe at home.

What size should you choose?

A few simple rules of thumb:

  • New to toys? Start small. A mini between 64 mm and 88 mm is easy to get to know. See choosing your first vibrator.
  • Prefer focused sensation? Look for a tapered or angled tip.
  • Want deeper sensation? A slightly larger, heavier toy usually has a bigger motor. See power and speeds.
  • Travel a lot? Choose something light and compact.

Every product page lists exact dimensions and weight, and our compare tool puts them side by side.

Questions, answered

What size vibrator is best for beginners?

Smaller toys tend to feel more approachable. A compact bullet between about 64 mm and 88 mm long is easy to hold, easy to control and easy to store.

Does a bigger vibrator mean stronger vibration?

Often, yes. Larger toys usually hold bigger motors, which tend to feel deeper and more rumbly. But motor design matters too, so check the speeds and the product description.

What is the difference between a rounded and a tapered tip?

A rounded tip spreads vibration gently over a wider area. A tapered tip narrows to a point for more focused, precise sensation.

Are curved vibrators more comfortable?

Many people find a gentle curve easier on the wrist, especially during longer sessions, because it follows the natural way you hold a toy.
